Can You Change Your Life in 24 Hours? A Therapist Explains How

Why Did I Wait to Believe in Myself?

What if the biggest shift in your life didn’t require years — but one decision? Yup, just that one decision. That one desire to want and trust in your abilities and capabilities.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I often hear clients say:
“I wish I had done this sooner.”
“I don’t know why I waited.”
“I didn’t realize I already had the strength.”

The truth is: if you’re reading this, you’ve already overcome difficult things before.

And, if you’ve overcome hard things before, you already have proof that you can do it again.

And this matters more than you think. You don’t need years to begin change. Sometimes you just need one decision.

You Already Have Proof You Can Change

If you’ve survived:

  • Anxiety

  • Relationship stress

  • Career transitions

  • Loss

  • Addiction struggles

  • Personal setbacks

You already possess resilience.

As your San Diego anxiety therapist, I am a Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Certified Practitioner - Level 3. We won’t focus on what’s broken. We focus on what’s already working — even in small ways.

I will ask questions in a way that remind you what is about yourself that lets you know you can achieve what you want.

Because change builds faster from strength than from shame.

What Happens in 24 Hours Anyway?

A single day can create momentum when you:

  • Decide to trust your abilities

  • Notice evidence of your past resilience

  • Imagine what would improve as a result

  • Identify who would notice that you were changing in a way that was most pleasing

  • Identify the difference even taking one small step will make

Momentum creates hope. Hope creates action. Action creates results. Results are created.

Reflection Questions

Ask yourself:

  • If I truly believed I was capable, what would I do differently tomorrow?

  • Who would notice first, what would they notice, and what difference would that make?

  • What would I be most pleased about making that shift?

  • What would that say about who I am becoming?

These questions are rooted in SFBT — and they work because they activate possibility instead of fear.

Anxiety and Self-Doubt: Why We Wait

Many adults delay therapy because:

  • They think they should “handle it themselves”

  • They feel embarrassed

  • They assume change takes too long

  • They fear being judged

  • They struggle with being vulnerable

  • They don’t want to talk about the past pain

In reality, therapy doesn’t have to be that way, especially a provider that specializes in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) because we will focus on strengths and future outcomes - that alone is efficient and empowering. Because, again, change builds faster from strength than from shame.
